A Natural Language based decision support in neurorehabilitation The changes that occurring today in patient care and chart review demand dynamic, innovative changes in medical record keeping. The concept of Problem-oriented Medical Record, which started several years ago was the first revolutionary onset of a more organised medical record keeping. Complex problems encountered in neuro-rehabilitation however ask for a second revolution. See the Project Web site: www.alladin-ehealth.org/ |

DOWNLOADS Project Profiles: Avian Flu Trying to find possible drugs on the grid in view of a possible avian flu pandemic, developing rapid earthquake analysis to aid disaster response efforts or analysing crisis management through simulated flooding. These are some of the many application of the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) project, a project which brings together scientists and engineers from more than 90 institutions in 32 countries world-wide to provide a seamless Grid infrastructure for e-Science that is available to scientists 24 hours-a-day. Delayed calls of emergency medical services is addressed in EMERGE by supporting elderly people with innovative emergency monitoring and prevention. Humans are bio-psycho-social beings, whose character is to follow typical behaviour. Especially elderly people have this character. The innovation is to algorithm this behaviour by a holistic approach in order to detect deviations from typical behaviour patterns and to reason on acute disorders in their health condition in case of strokes, falls or similar emergencies . "Health-e-Child" focuses at individualised disease prevention, screening, early diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of paediatric heart diseases, inflamatory diseases, and brain tumours, being supported by biomedical data. It will build a GRID enabled European network of leading clinical centres, for diffuse excellence across Europe, setting up new technologies, clinical workflows, and standards. It will be in the Market as of May 2007, in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlanda, the United Kingdom, and Slovakia. See more at the Project web site: http://www.health-e-child.org/ |

The MobilAlarm project tested an innovative, location-independent alarm and teleassistance service which enables older people, chronically ill, and other persons at risk to initiate an alarm call whenever and wherever he or she needs or wants to do so. The project analysed the European market for such services in general, and in particular developed and tested business models in three distinct markets. This involved providing such services to selected user groups over an extended period of time. Finally, a comprehensive plan for fast market roll-out and diffusion across Europe was developed, and market deployment was initiated. To establish such an efficient, trans-European service meeting the needs of users across the European Union, various British, German and Spanish partners - representing the whole value chain - were involved in this project. MyHeart is an Integrated Project aiming to develop intelligent systems for the prevention and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases. The project develops smart electronic and textile systems and appropriate services that empower the users to take control of their own health status. It is the aim of the MyHeart project to fight CVD by prevention and early diagnosis. A healthy and preventive lifestyle as well as early diagnosis of heart diseases could save millions of life years annually, reduce the morbidity significantly and, simultaneously, improve the quality of life of the European citizen. Prevention offers the opportunity to systematically fight the origin of cardio-vascular diseases as well as to improve the medical outcome after an event. Classical medical institutions offer only intermittent, episodical treatment, while prevention asks for a lifelong continuous change of habits and therefore for a continuous health-care delivery process. With its innovative system-solutions for integrated textiles, sensors and on-body electronics, the MyHeart project significantly contributes to the European excellence in the area of bioengineering and thereby to the Lisbon strategy of the EC. The " NETC@RDS " initiative is devoted to establish new improved health care administration services for mobile citizens across the EU. The actual phase aims at deploying e-health services via the European Health Insurance Card through a wide trans-European network simplifying health care access procedures. NETC@RDS successfully tested the electronic version of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) during its first and second Market Validation phases. The Initial Deployment phase of the project - launched on 1 June 2007 - will deploy operational services in all targeted sites, to a total of 305 service sites serving 566 service points across the participating countries . Anyone who has ever been told by their doctor to steer clear of certain foods, lower their calorie intake or cut down on salt knows just how hard it can be to avoid temptation and stay motivated. A virtual healthcare assistant is being developed to offer a guiding hand. The personalised information system being created by the PIPS project will give users access to real-time healthcare advice anywhere at anytime over mobile and fixed-line devices, helping them to consistently make the best choices to lead a healthier lifestyle. People suffering from illnesses such as diabetes or obesity stand to benefit but so too do people considered at risk of developing so-called ‘lifestyle diseases' or anyone simply looking to lead a healthier life. The RoboBraille project is an e-mail based service that converts written text to and from Braille and Speech versions to aid visually impaired people and those who have difficulties reading. The service is available free of charge to all non-commercial uses . The Danish RoboBraille service is currently being tested in Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus and the United Kingdom. The RoboBraille service has already received considerable publicity; the project was presented on the BBC News web site giving an overview of the Electronic Braille System. | Breast cancer is the leading cause of death for European women aged 35 to 55. In the EU, the disease is diagnosed every two-and-a-half minutes and a woman dies every six-and-a-half minutes. This can be prevented. A European project, SCREEN, is taking the lead by developing soft-copy reading (SCR) technology to increase the effectiveness of digital mammography that will help save the lives of millions of women worldwide. Researchers at seven university hospitals in France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, Norway and Sweden developed and evaluated a workstation that can be used in digital screening mammography. In a population-based screening mammography programme, very high-volumes of data are collected each day from screening units distributed over the country. Typically about 80 women can be screened per day on each mammography unit. With digital mammography, reading and archiving can be centralised more efficiently, and the lack of film will result in significant savings over time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

e-Vital , an eTEN project from Call 2001, validated the European market for the provision of a remote monitoring telemedicine service employing vital signs monitoring devices on the move. The device transfers critical vital parameters on-line to doctors and medical consultants, regardless of their location, while getting feedback back to the patients. After the eTEN phase was completed in 2004 their final business Plan attracted the interest of a business angel in Greece. Following two years of hard negotiations and three versions of a more focused Business Plan, the business was finally supported by a venture capital, creating a new company, called VIDAVO . The focus of the new entity is on the development of novel integrated telematics solutions in the healthcare sector. VIDAVO provides technical support for health telematics applications and consulting support for the effective integration of these solutions and for the optimization of the quality of healthcare services. VIDAVO is now starting the deployment of an eHealth solution based on the eVital concept in Greece. Discussions are ongoing with other potential European partners for the future cooperation, the most mature business case being in Cyprus. European regions have also shown interest and VIDAVO was recently invited to present its business case in ERISA (European Regional Information Society Association) which through their IANIS+ Innovative Actions (www.ianis.net) aim at accelerated deployment of the regional information society.
