Extreme market thrills – Kiwok starts up in India

(Press Release)

Date: 25 September 2007

The Swedish medtech company Kiwok – with its health care service BodyKom Series ECG for mobile distribution of patients ECG – will now start up in India. The Partner is SRS Globalsoft ; an Indian international consulting company engaged in ICT project management with a focus on global life sciences and telecommunication industries.

To service SAARC (The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; Kiwok AB and SRS Globalsoft will incorporate a joint venture company in India and raise international equity capital to partially fund the venture. To start this process, Kiwok has applied for financial support from ALMI and the Swedish Export Credits Guarantee Board. SRS Globalsoft has also acquired minority stakes in Kiwok AB.

According to Mr. Aditya Prakash, Chairman, SRS Group; “The introduction of BodyKom Series™ service in India will revolutionize the Indian healthcare scenario. Today's sedentary lifestyle has led to heart diseases and high levels of stress among individuals. The BodyKom service will not only support the curative patient care system but also give a significant lead in improving the preventive care in the country. The service will help to lower the cardiovascular disease risk among individuals and contribute to productivity gains of the organizations.”

Indian healthcare is high ranked as among the best in the world and as prosperity will increase in India, health care costs will explode as today in the western world. India is expected to pass 1200 million inhabitants in the near future, compared to Sweden 9 million people. The proportion of heart failure patients is almost the same. “We see a market of 500 patient kits per 1 million inhabitants in India” says Anders Björlin, Business Architect at Kiwok. “Using our service BodyKom, the heart patient can be under observation without repeated visits at the hospital and medication can be followed up already in the beginning of the medication period. Heart failure, hypertension and diabetes are the three most common diseases in the world and usually they can take 40 % or more of the health care budget (ref. Stockholm County Council). Introducing the use of mobile remote care, health care providers can redistribute more than 25 % of budget, which means 75 billion SEK in Sweden and 54 000 billion INR – Indian Rupees.”

BodyKom Series ECG is today the only medtech service in the market where the functionality is combined with ICT, using mobile data distribution together with event trigging rules to reduce time for interaction between patient and clinician. In the patient daily life it is not always easy to feel or experience the symptoms of beginning heart failure. However the BodyKom solution will see deviations and register abnormal heartbeats and also automatically notify the clinician that there is new diagnose information to pick up. Today BodyKom is in use at the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge/ Stockholm for medical and economic validation. The service is also in use at Aker Hospital in Oslo.

The BodyKom solution is built on the best and most reliable technology existing in the world – NonStop Servers from HP, mobile communication from WIP, Blaze decision support from Fair Isaac. The sensor used today comes from PicoMed GmbH and the cell phone from Sony Ericsson.

Kiwok has got high attention for its pioneering service BodyKom Series ECG. The Service has been rewarded price as IT renewer of the year at the Competence Gala 2007, the Healthcare IT-price for best IT solution for health care services at the Clinicians Congress 2006 and appointed to Innovation of the year at the Mobile Gala 2005.
