16th International Conference on
Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services

The 16th International Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) will be organised in Berlin on May 14 to 16, 2008. Each year, the International Conferences on Health Promoting Hospitals are organised by a different local host, in co-operation with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the Sociology of Health and Medicine, Vienna, acting on behalf of WHO-Euro in its function as WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Care. It is the aim of these conferences to support the further development of the International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals, which has so far developed in 40 national/regional networks in most European countries.

Main topics of the conference are:

  • Quo vadis, HPH: Reorienting health services by integrating health promotion principles into clinical core services, or by expanding into new health promotion services – or by both?
  • Improving patient orientation: Safety, clinical evidence, cultural appropriateness
  • Improving staff orientation: The challenge of an ageing workforce
  • Improving community and public health orientation: Sustainability and corporate social responsibility
