Group 3. Knowledge Based and Decision Support Systems

Some of the projects in this line were built on the previous exploratory phase of AIM, namely KAVAS-2 continued addressing the problem of assisting the medical professionals in making their knowledge explicit and in determining the quality of knowledge in practical applications, GAMES-II aimed at developing a general architecture and software tools for the design of medical KBS. The following projects have been grouped into this line:

CAMI Computer Assisted Medical Interventions
DILEMMA Logical Engineering in General Practice, Oncology and Shared-Care
EPISTOL Perspectives in the use of Electronic Support for Cognition, Knowledge Processing, and Decision Making in the Health Sector
GAMES-II A General Architecture for Medical Knowledge-Based Systems
KAVAS-2 Knowledge Acquisition Visualisation and Assessment System
OPADE Optimisation of Drug Prescriptions using Advanced Informatics

Their results have been:

Namely DILEMMA has addressed the areas of general medical practice and of cancer treatment with the development of protocols for shared care of cancer patients, while OPADE has developed an intelligent drug prescription system.
