The number of very old and frail elderly people is growing. Together with persons born with or acquiring a physical handicap this constitutes a large number of citizens that can benefit from rehabilitation efforts, including movement (mainly gait) and posture analysis. Existing movement analysis methods and equipment have to be interlinked to enable a homogeneous service of high quality in Europe. Problems of processing, storing and communicating signals have to be solved in a standardized manner and concensus concerning terminology, classification etc. has to be reached. The project created and tested out a pilot network linking rehabilitation centres, hospitals, research centres and industry. This, assisted by a knowledge base, enable evaluation of movement analysis methods and equipment and facilitate exchange of experience and knowledge respecting principles of data protection and confidentiality. The CAMARC-II system can constitute a Europe- (world ?) wide reference for the functional assessment of the motor (dis)abilities of the motor impaired and/or elderly.
