COVIRA deals mainly with image analysis. Major concerns for the medical users are how to integrate a large amount of informations (from CT, MRI, DSA, PET and SPECT) in a friendly way for neuroradiological diagnosis, radiation therapy planning, taking care of patient radiation. Covira provided an advanced computer assisted image analysis, with a good cost/effectiveness ratio. The project has improved and extended the insight into the customer's needs, showing the importance of the multi-modal approach in the applications areas. The insights gained in the project helped the process of design and implementation of a multi-modal workstation and of specific clinical derivations at Philips and has influenced workstation design at Siemens. The software for image segmentation and registration is being commercialised by IBM. The package for radiation therapy planning is being evaluated by a large group of clinics and negotiations regarding licensing have taken place.
