The project aimed at contributing to enable equity and quality of health care by means of telematics, also to benefit patients in less favoured regions in a national or transnational context, ensuring the provision of more cost effective services. Its objective was to minimize the economical risk of implementation and operation of telemedicine services for the provision of medical care, supporting the compatibility and interoperability of medical equipment and of value added services to be provided by European enterprises. The project met those challenges by producing a set of guidelines to develop and establish particular applications as well as a detailed action plan for the installation of European Telemedicine services. An experimental demonstrator provided a basis for the validation of the framework.
