Making decisions in medicine is always a difficult issue. The way in which doctors do this is still surrounded by intuitive approaches and "mystery", although their concrete consequences for patients' life and welfare, as well as for the functioning and expending of the health care system. Starting from a specific clinical domain -icteric patients- this project aims to understand and explicit the grounds for medical decision-making. To do so medical records tools will be developed for different types of microcomputers. This systems will also contain some sort of intelligence, in order to help doctors interpret their global approach against empiric information gathered in a data base of recorded cases. This project is expected to contribute to a variety of domains: medical education and continuing training, clinical information storage and retrieval, and cost analysis and containment. Underdone by a consortium with a strong academical ground, it may put into the market competitive products through the participation of dynamic software houses.
