OBSQID identified and validated European quality development indicators in perinatal care which will allow exchange of data at regional, national and transnational levels through the use of telematic and computerised information systems, via a collaboration network backed up by the European Office of the World Health Organization. This made possible to monitor, evaluate and identify "best practices" in order to improve the quality and outcome of perinatal care in the region. The data collection was a step in the validation of the quality indicators, identifying which of these are currently being used for data collection activities within the European region. All EU countries are participating, and for this purpose, a simple software tool has been designed and distributed to participating centres; once the data was made available, it was aggregated, analysed and transferred to a computerised information system based on the Health for All (HFA) database designed by WHO/EURO.
