In 1988, the Greek Ministry of Health began a central informatics programme. By the end of 1993 information systems had been installed in fifteen major hospitals. These systems included medical, nursing and administrative applications. A second phase is being planned which will extend the systems to a further group of hospitals while introducing more advanced applications, such as PACS, to university hospitals. |
Other developments in this area include the Encephalos' Diagnostic Centre which links 13 units to a central diagnostic facility, and Cardioexpress', which is a private monitoring service based on an electronic medical record, offering emergency cardiac assistance to subscribers.
Recent developments in Greece include a study of the Greek Public Service Insurance Fund Health Care System. An evaluation of bids is taking place to select a consortium to undertake the following:
