Introduction

European Health Telematics Observatory’s
Network of National Languages Affiliated Sites

This is an innovative concept created by EHTO (European Health Telematics Observatory). EHTO own Web-site covers all types of organized information related with health telematics scenario in Europe. EHTO information uses the English language, and deals with a broad sprectum of issues. In particular, the European Commission services in DG13 are using it for dissemination of their most important and specific information, as well as for the projects's information that are funded by DG13.

National Languages Affiliated EHTO-Sites, on the contrary, are individualised health telematics observatories in diverse countries not only based at European level but also beyond. The launching of each site is decided by individual countries, either at national or regional level, and they are entirely supported by local Health authorities and by, at least, a Telecom operator. The aim is to disseminate national information on health telematics in each of the languages, respecting both their specific cultures and the different types of organisations existing for the local health services. National or regional EHTO affiliated sites will also contribute for the implementation of the Information Society.

The group of independent National Languages Affiliated Sites (NLAS) constitute the EHTO-NLAS Network to which each site should acts as a relay, for the others and also for EHTO. For example, important national information could also be put in EHTO to be disseminated in english to a wide international level.

There is a Memorandum Of Undestanding, M.O.U., that is signed between each Affiliated Site and EHTO whenever a new site decides to be launched.
