Overview
This project was to support some specific activities of the MIE 97 Congress. Medical Informatics Europe (MIE) Congress is the main Medical Informatics Event in Europe, which combined with the MEDINFO Congress of IMIA become the world top events of Medical Informatics.
Purpose and objectives
The MIE 97 specific activities support project aimed at the following:
- The partial funding for the participation of the Balkan and the Eastern Europeans.
- The funding of the keynote speaches.
- The funding of the dissemination of the Telematics Applications Programme' results.
The objectives of this project are the following:
- To disseminate the results of EU Telematics Applications Programme - Health Sector in Eastern European and particularly in the Balkan Countries.
- To organise a promotion platform for the EU Health Telematics Applications Programme.
- To fund the invitation of internationally recognised keynote speakers.
- To support the participation and dissemination of the results of EU Telematics Applications Projects.
Results
The project was able to fulfill all the above mentioned three goals. In particular the Eastern Europeans were urged and notified via ordinary mail and EMAIL to contribute to the MIE 97 scientific programme and to apply for financial aid, which would cover their registration fees and part of their subsistence.
The invited keynote speakers were four. Their names and the themes of their talks were decided by the EFMI board which convened in Porto Carras in January 1997. The themes covered the four major areas, covered by MIE 97, i.e. Health Telematics, Computer Patient Record, Images and PACS, and Education/Technology Assessment. These talks were lively broadcasted through the INTERNET for the first time world-wide.
Finally, the MIE 97 advertisement was accomplished through the distribution of pamphlets and the development of a WWW site at the site of the Laboratory of Medical Informatics (http://www.med.auth.gr/~mie97). The printing of the MIE 97 Proceedings published by IOS Press was partly funded by the MIE 97 programme, as can be seen in the appropriate Deliverable.
