Promoting User-Friendly Information Society |
The strategic objective of this programme "is to realise the benefits of the information society for Europe both by accelerating its emergence and by ensuring that the needs of individuals and enterprises are met."
In contrast to the previous 4th Framework Programme (1994-1998), this programme has four inter-related objectives which are approached through the following four key actions: (1) Systems and services for the citizen (2) New methods of work and electronic commerce (3) Multimedia content and tools and (4) Essential technologies and infrastructures. See IST Overview for full details.
There are cross-programme themes (so-called "cross-programme actions" and "cross-programme clusters") to support the integration of work. The programme specifically encourages cooperation of projects (clustering) and remains open for "future emerging technologies" through the FET action
