Call for Applications

INTERACTIVE ELECTRONIC PUBLIC SERVICES

"From Policy to Practice"

High-level Conference on eGovernment Applications

                          29-30 November 2001, Charlemagne, Brussels

The Belgian Presidency and the European Commission will jointly organise a European conference on eGovernment applications, 29-30 November 2001, in Brussels. The aim of the conference is to illustrate eGovernment in practice and how citizens and businesses can reap real benefits from interactive electronic public services in their day-to-day needs.

The conference will feature leading examples of currently used interactive eGovernment applications in Europe at all levels of government (central, regional, local). Therefore, administrations at all levels in the Member States, the EFTA and the Candidate countries are invited to send descriptions of successful, currently used interactive online public services by Friday 14 September 2001 to
infso-egov@cec.eu.int.

An Information Day on the call for applications will take place in Brussels on July 10 in the Charlemagne Building, rue de la Loi 170 from 9.00 - 13.00h.

If you would like to participate, please register until 5 July per e-mail at:
infso-egov@cec.eu.int

You will find the agenda of the Information Day here.

All the examples received will be featured on the conference web site. The applications selected by the Commission with the assistance of external experts will be offered the possibility to take part in the conference exhibition. A number of them will be asked to make a presentation in a conference session.

The conference thus presents a unique opportunity for administrations with innovative and successfully implemented interactive online services to reach a high-level audience and be recognised at European level as a leading practice of eGovernment.

The applications will be examined by independent experts from the viewpoint of the user, i.e. citizens and businesses, according to the criteria specified below. Selection is expected to be completed by early November.

A non-exhaustive list of examples (in ) of relevant eGovernment services are the 20 on-line public services to be benchmarked in the context of the eEurope 2002 Action Plan as well as other public services such as eHealth and eTransport.

We ask you to submit a three-page description of your eGovernment application, using the submission form. For practical reasons a submission in English is strongly preferred. Supporting background material may also be provided but will only made use of if strictly necessary for the examination by the experts.
