Wheel with balanced vector angular momentum for trolleys, etc for use in hospitals, warehouses, supermarkets, etc.

Abstract : A small Scottish company has developed a wheel suitable for use in hospitals, e.g. on beds or trolleys, wheelchairs. In warehouses, supermarkets or other goods handling situations it may be used on
trolleys or pallet trucks. The wheel design eliminates the tendency to swerve in one direction. This makes it easier and safer to propel the trolley. The company is looking for industrial partners willing to manufacture and market the wheel.

Wheels, particularly in the form of casters, (i.e. a wheel mounted in a swivelling frame)  are used for trolleys, particularly trolleys pushed or pulled by a person. Conventional wheels and casters have a tendency to swerve due to unbalanced vector angular momentum. Trolleys used in supermarkets are a good example of a trolley with unbalanced casters. The company has developed a simple design that has balanced vector angular momentum.

This new wheel design can be used in hospitals, e.g. on beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs. In warehouses, supermarkets or other goods handling situations it may be used on trolleys or pallet trucks.

Main Advantages:
Trolleys, beds, wheelchairs, etc. fitted with the innovative wheels or casters will require less effort to push, and be much easier to steer and therefore much safer to use. The risk of the trolley uncontrollably moving in an unwanted direction is eliminated.
Innovative Aspects : A worldwide patent search has revealed no similar solution to this problem of balancing vector angular momentum in a wheel or caster.
The design solution is simple.
