INTRODUCTION

This paper represents a summary based on contributions from all EU member states, plus Norway. The narrative section attempts to draw together the common strands of policy developments in the information systems area, whilst also indicating something of the differences which exist in the organisation of health care throughout Europe.

The paper is put forward to both inform the Commission and members of the Telematics Programme Committee of common interest areas, and to act as a reference source for health care telematics workers in the European Union.
