New Telemedicine Report

(Source: Tie)

The summary for a report on Telemedicine for the Medicare Population: Evidence Report/Technology Assessment #24 has just been released by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The report was prepared for the AHRQ by the Oregon Health Sciences University Evidence-based Practice Center.

The AHRQ is developing scientific information for other agencies and organizations on which to base clinical guidelines, performance measures and other quality improvement tools. This report focuses on specific study areas, with a focus on those that would substitute for face-to-face medical diagnosis and treatment of the Medicare population. In an exhaustive literature search, the report summarizes scientific evidence on the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness of these services, identifies gaps in the evidence, and makes recommendations for evaluating telemedicine services.

The full report will be available (free) this April from the AHRQ by calling (800-358-9295) and asking for the above title, AHRQ Publication #01-E012; and it will be available on the AHRQ site.
